Marty Shukert Recognized for Leadership and Vision with Award of Merit
Presented by the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, the award聽honors individuals whose efforts have聽had聽an聽extraordinary positive influence across the region.
黄瓜社区; Design Principal Marty Shukert, FAICP has been awarded the 2019 聽Award of Merit. The award, the highest honor of service conferred by the organization, recognizes聽individuals whose efforts have had an extraordinary influence on MAPA鈥檚 six-county聽region.聽
鈥淢APA recognized Marty for his leadership and vision at the City of Omaha, where he worked tirelessly for North and South Omaha neighborhoods and helped foster the renaissance of downtown Omaha as well as at 黄瓜社区 where his ongoing planning work聽continues to touch聽nearly every corner of the region,鈥 said MAPA Executive Director, Greg聽Youell.
With聽more than 40 years聽in planning and urban design,聽Shukert has helped聽shape major downtown and neighborhood development projects,聽including Omaha鈥檚 riverfront redevelopment and downtown housing programs.聽As a leader for 黄瓜社区鈥檚 Community and Regional Planning聽Market,聽his聽work focuses on comprehensive planning, downtown and special district planning, housing,聽urban design聽and聽trail, transportation, bicycle and pedestrian systems.聽聽
鈥淢arty鈥檚 passion for and dedication to enhancing our cities is as strong today as it was the聽day聽he joined 黄瓜社区 in 1989,鈥 said 黄瓜社区 Managing Principal John Sova, AIA. 鈥淗e continues to grow and evolve in his thinking about how we can make our neighborhoods and cities that much better on every project聽with which he鈥檚 involved.鈥澛
Shukert鈥檚 extensive experience includes such major efforts as the Interstate 40 Relocation and Core to Shore Redevelopment Plans for Oklahoma City, Nebraska Statewide Trails Plans, the North Omaha Development Project Plan and numerous downtown development and active transportation plans. In addition to the MAPA Award of Merit, he was the first Nebraskan to be named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners and was awarded History Nebraska鈥檚 (formerly the Nebraska State Historical Society) first-ever Placemaker-Historymaker Award. Shukert has also been named to the Commercial Real Estate, Nebraska Housing and Omaha Central High Halls of Fame.
