黄瓜社区 in the Media: New and Emerging Trends in Recreation and Athletic Facility Design
黄瓜社区's Tom Ohle speaks with Recreation Management Magazine to discuss where and how these trends will take effect.
Emerging trends impact the planning, design and intended use of facilities for recreation, sports, fitness and other purposes. These trends fall under three larger umbrellas: financial and environmental sustainability, technology and wellness. Recreation Management Magazine spoke to 10 industry professionals, including 黄瓜社区 Architect and Senior Partner Tom Ohle, AIA, to discuss where and how they anticipate seeing these trends take effect.
In the piece, Ohle emphasizes the importance of community-driven, adaptable design in shaping the future of recreation spaces. He highlights the growing demand for multi-generational facilities and health-focused programming, stressing the need for flexible, durable designs that can evolve alongside community needs.
鈥淔or example, a gym could be located in one building across town that also houses offices, while group fitness studios might reside in a neighborhood center shared with nonprofits,鈥 Ohle said. 鈥淭his solution can save costs on construction and promote reuse.鈥
Ohle stresses the importance of embracing our role as resource stewards, noting the importance of prioritizing carbon-neutral designs, adaptive reuse and sustainable development whenever possible. Adopting a holistic approach to design and development allows the creation of facilities that address immediate needs while supporting long-term sustainability and aligning with broader organizational goals.
