Session Details

Since 2020, 黄瓜社区 Landscape Architect Grant Thompson has been conducting research and sharing insights at speaking events related to tree diversity and tree supply.

Landscape architects who specify trees face challenges delivering diverse, appropriate, and climate-aware selections for public clients such as municipalities, states, or regional entities. Offering consulting services profitably requires meeting permitting requirements, which may include approved tree lists, minimum tree sizes, and staff familiarity with management. Tree lists may be mismatched with what is available in the nursery trade. Tree lists may also reflect currently appropriate trees without considering future climate trajectories.

This forum is part of a larger project called 鈥淎ddressing Regional Tree Supply Challenges and Opportunities.鈥 This project is led by the University of Florida researchers and partners and is funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Chesapeake Bay Program, and the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
